Two Stage Air Compressors

A two-stage air compressor compresses air in two steps: first at a low pressure, then at a higher pressure.
This design increases efficiency, maintains cooler operation, and supports higher pressure applications.

How Do Two Stage Air Compressors Work?

In oil-free water-injected screw models, two stage compressors use water to cool, lubricate, and seal during compression. For example, a compressor at 30 bar, air is first compressed at a lower pressure around 7 bar, then separated in water-air separator tank before moving to a second compression stage at higher pressure reaching to 30 bar. The water reduces friction and absorbs heat, increasing efficiency. After compression, the 2nd separator removes water from the air, ensuring cool, clean output suitable for sensitive applications.

In oil-flooded screw models, dual stage compressors compress air in two stages to increase efficiency. In the first stage, air is compressed and heated, with oil injected to lubricate and cool the components. The air is then transferred to the second stage, where it’s compressed further. This process ensures optimal performance and minimizes wear. After compression, the oil and air mixture is separated, producing clean, pressurized air for various applications.

What's the major difference between GAIRS and KLINA?

Both GAIRS and KLINA belong to the GAIRS Group. GAIRS targets the high-end compressed air market and has shifted its focus solely to water-injected oil-free single screw technology. GAIRS’ mission is to deliver 100% clean compressed air while ensuring every GAIRS compressor has the lowest Global Warming Potential (GWP), contributing to a more sustainable environment.

KLINA, in collaboration with trusted partners, offers both oil-injected rotary screw compressors and water-injected oil-free single screw compressors. These models provide efficient, economical, and practical solutions for clients’ compressed air needs.

You May Also Want To Know

The following are frequently asked by our customers about two stage air compressors.

What is a two-stage air compressor?

A two-stage air compressor compresses air in two distinct stages, allowing for higher efficiency and pressure output compared to single-stage compressors.

What are the benefits of using a 2 stage air compressor?

Two-stage compressors offer improved efficiency, higher pressure output, reduced heat generation, and longer lifespan due to less wear and tear on components.

What applications are best suited for two-stage air compressors?

They are ideal for industrial and commercial applications requiring high-pressure air, such as manufacturing, PET bottling, and nonferrous industry.

How does a two-stage compressor differ from a single-stage compressor?

Unlike single-stage compressors, which compress air in one stage, two-stage compressors compress air twice, resulting in higher pressure and efficiency.

Do two-stage air compressors require more maintenance?

Generally, they have similar maintenance needs as single-stage compressors; however, regular checks on oil (or water) levels and cooling systems are essential for optimal performance.
